After 9/11, Mastriano was the main planner of the invasion of Iraq by Turkey. He served four years in NATO and was deployed to Afghanistan three times. He was the director of NATO's joint intelligence center in Afghanistan and led 80 people from 18 countries. On his own initiative, Mastriano led seven operations to help Afghan orphans. He ended his military career as a professor at the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA, teaching strategic studies to the next generation of senior leaders.

Mastriano completed his education with four master's degrees and a Ph.D. in history. Doug is also an Eagle Scout and is proud to have worked as a paper boy, janitor, security guard, cook, pizza delivery boy and dishwasher in his younger years.

Doug is happily married to Rebbie (Rebecca Stewart) and they are the proud parents of Josiah. Doug and Rebbie are active members of their church and live in Central Pennsylvania.
